Issue 2: embodied

Mourning Sex

Jen Jakob

Wrapped in sheets

                  neither hers nor mine.

She                                 coos

               my name

in time with a dove

                           weeping

          beyond the glass.

We make love

                in a gentle,

ardent                     rhythm.

   I had never

               made love before.

She makes it taste like

                                poetry &

summer berries

& the brine of sweat

for breakfast;

             break your fast

on the flesh between my legs.

My head on her breasts

              waves of sunlight

                         lapping lazy

                               at our thighs

floating

                           and coming down

wound in coils of

lust               &        promise.

                                    promise you’ll s(t)ay:

Someday, the sheets

                            will be ours.
